![]() Great Beginnings Maternity Services Mercy Medical Center Believes in Great Beginnings. In fact, we've been at the arrival of thousands of newborns since 1908. And although child bearing has gone through a great deal of change over the years, it remains one of life's most special moments. Skilled Compassionate Staff Our most cherished asset is our staff. Whether your labor is short or long, delivery is vaginal or c-section, you choose an epidural or to deliver natural, our nurses are here to help support you every step of the way. This compassion is what makes Mercy's nurses stand out and remembered long after your baby's birth. Your Private Room
Mercy's BirthSuites provide a private environment for you to labor and deliver your infant. All technical equipment and skilled personnel are in the same room throughout the childbearing process. All BirthSuites have coordinated wallpaper, draperies, flooring and lighting fixtures to make your room just as comfortable and cheerful as a room in your own home.
After delivery you'll move to a private postpartum room for the remainder of your stay. Each postpartum room provides a private bathroom with a shower and entertainment area with a television. Family-Centered Maternity Care The relaxed, homelike atmosphere of our BirthSuites and postpartum rooms is an ideal environment to promote family-centered maternity care. The baby's father or your support person is encouraged to be with you throughout the birth experience. Following the birth, we urge you to involve other members of the family including siblings and grandparents. Family Waiting RoomMercy also has a Family Waiting Room so your relatives can wait comfortably for the new baby to arrive. The Family Waiting Room features television sets and a children's play area. Mother-Baby Care The postpartum rooms were designed to allow your baby to stay in your room. This gives you the opportunity to get to know your newborn during his/her first days of life. Of course, the nursery is available for mothers who wish to utilize this option. Following delivery, you may be anxious about how to care for your newborn. Mercy's OB nurses are available to offer instruction about infant and postpartum care. An additional resource is available on your hospital room TV. Just turn on the newborn channel for information about what to expect the first few weeks following delivery. A Spanish version of the newborn channel is available for our hispanic clients. Breastfeeding Support Mercy Medical Center has certified lactation consultants available to all breastfeeding mothers. The goal of our lactation consultants is to help you meet your own personal breastfeeding goals, while having a positive and rewarding experience. Mercy also offers the opportunity to rent or purchase electric breast pumps. Neonatal Special Care NurseryThe Neonatal Special Care Nursery specializes in caring for sick and premature infants. Thanks to the latest technological advances and a highly skilled team of neonatologists, nurses and therapists, the Special Care Nursery provides care for babies with most conditions, including those requiring specialized support. Thanks to the new innovation, parents who deliver their babies at Mercy have the option of posting their new family member’s picture on the Mercy web site for out-of-town relatives and friends to see. The site only lists the baby’s first and middle name and the parents’ first names to protect privacy. Find out your due date, see the development of your baby each week, plan for baby arrival, learn more about special care pregnancies and much more.
