Wound Care

Hope for Wounds that Won't Heal.
Mercy Medical Center has a comprehensive Wound Care Center dedicated to the management of acute and chronic wounds.

Mercy's Wound Care Center specializes in treating people with acute and chronic non-healing wounds. These may include pressure sores, diabetic ulcers, venous stasis or peripheral vascular disease ulcers (ulcers caused by poor circulation), wounds caused by accidents or sores caused by any other health problem.

The Wound Care Center Team
The Wound Care Center staff have received special training in the treatment and prevention of wounds. A team effort is provided by multi-specialists who combine knowledge in various areas of wound management:
• Physicians: Plastic Surgeon, Vascular Surgeon, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Podiatrist, General Surgeon
• Nurses: Ostomy Specialist, Wound Care Specialist
• Physical Therapist
• Occupational Therapist
• Diabetic Educator
• Nutrition Counseling
• Podiatrist
• Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
• Social Services

Working With Your Physician
The Wound Care Center Team will work closely with your personal physician in managing your wound care. After completing your wound care treatments, your personal physician will resume your medical care.

Comprehensive Care
The Wound Care Center can treat many kinds of wounds such as:
• Wounds related to diabetes
• Wounds related to poor circulation
• Non-healing wounds from trauma or surgery
• Pressure sores
• Wounds from the effects of radiation or medication
• Wounds caused by other health problems

Wound Care Services Include
• Wound Evaluation
• On first visit, every patient receives a thorough wound analysis by the Wound Care Team to design an individualized treatment plan.

Wound Treatment
• A treatment plan is designed to achieve optimum wound healing.

Education & Prevention
• All patients are taught how to take care of their wound and prevent future ones.
